Governor Kayode Fayemi delivers EKSU 1ST INTERDISCIPLINARY LECTURE

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has stressed the need to understand the concept of leadership, and rescue it from the cheapening it has undergone. According to him, “true leadership is something quite distinct from holding an office or a position”.
He made the assertion while delivering a lecture at the 1st Interdisciplinary Public Lecture of the Post Graduate School of the Ekiti State University on February 26, 2013. “True leadership is influence. It is driven by core convictions, values and ideas” the Governor who is the visitor to the University emphasized. Dr. Fayemi further explained that one might not need a political office or title to become an exemplar of higher values.
In the Lecture titled “Reflections On Values And the Building Of A Successor Generation In Nigeria”, The Governor who holds a Doctorate in War Studies, specializing in Civil-Military Relations, also touched on the place of the youth in leadership.
According to him, “the place of the youth in the quest for National renewal and new ethos of transformative leadership is especially pertinent given the demographic realities of today.” He told the audience that there was need for Nigeria to harness the power of youth to regenerate the society, stressing that throughout history leaders have understood and sought to harness the power of youth to regenerate their societies.
In his remarks the Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Oladipo Aina, said that the coming of the Governor to deliver a lecture further show the remarkable progress the University has being making to have international visibility. He recalled that EKSU was perhaps the only University with a president of a Nation as a distinguished honorary Alumnus, in person of President John Dramani Mahama of the Republic of Ghana.
Prof. Aina noted that Governor Fayemi initiated many global connections for the University including that of University of South Africa, Johannesburg, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg University of Kwazulu, Natal in South Africa, University of Manitoba, Arizona State University. Professor Aina noted that the Governor’s connections also led to international reach to Kings College London, Keele University, UK, University of Dundee, University of Nottingham and University of Glasgow.
In his words “all of these have improved our international visibility and contributed to the improved webometric rating of the University from 79th position last year to the present of 19th position.
Among dignitaries at the occasion were EKSU Chairman Governing Council, Prof. Akinjide Osuntokun; Chief Kehinde Ojo Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology; Top Government functionaries and members of Public.

WAEC cancels results, four years after examination

In 2008, Sulaiman Ismail, now 23, was one of about 200 candidates that Ogudu Senior Grammar School, Ogudu, GRA, Ojota, Lagos, presented for the May/June Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). When the examination body released the results in September same year, the candidate, with examination number 4251410254 was one of the few who recorded average performance.
Details of his results are as follows: English Language- C6; Mathematics- B2; Agricultural Science- B3; Biology- C5; Chemistry- C4; Physics- C4; Economics- D7; Geography-D7 while absent was recorded against Government. In 2009, Ismail wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and scored 213. He later scored 80 per cent in the Post-UTME conducted by the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, his preferred university, where he was eventually admitted to study Computer Science.
He is not only four years into his studies, he is already preparing for his graduation when the unexpected happens.
As part of the prerequisites for graduation, he appeared at relevant university’s departments for clearance. At the Examination and Records Department, he was asked to prove the authenticity of the SSCE result he earlier presented and upon which he was offered admission. Innocently, Ismail supplied the detailed information to verify the ownership and that was when he received the shocker of his life.
“We logged on to WAEC’s website and rather than displaying my grades against each subject that I registered, all I could see was “cancelled” against every subject except Government which I did not write and they put ABS, which means absent. And it was like a dream to me at that point and even till now,” Ismail explained.
In his confused state, Ismail, a First Class material with current Cumulative Gradient Point (GPA) of 4.64, left Ilorin for Lagos on Thursday, February 14, and headed straight to his school to enquire about the situation. “When I got to the school, I met the new principal, Mr. Benedict and his deputy, Mrs. Adeniran, who told me they were also shocked to receive the news from some of my mates with similar experience.
When I probed further, I was only directed to the father of one of my mates, who they claimed had better information on the matter,” the astonished student narrated further. He went to meet his mate’s father, Mr. Owoyemi Moses, who told him that his son, Oluwatosin Owoyemi, was also affected by the development. But unlike Ismail, the boy was in 200-level at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti when he discovered there was a problem with his WAEC result.
Oluwatosin wasn’t at home when National Mirror visited, but his father said the trouble started in April 2012 when his son was processing his course registration as a 200-level student and discovered that his results earlier released by WAEC had been cancelled.
“The boy was weeping when he told me and I could not believe my ears because he had checked same result on WAEC website and printed it four years earlier. We also got a statement of result from the school and the portion of a copy of the master sheet from WAEC that contains his details. So, how come almost four years after that he went online again to discover that, his results had been cancelled? “I pacified him and asked him to return to Lagos so that we could find out what was amiss. When we got to the school, I was surprised that they were not even aware of the development.
We were only told that the students had been coming for their certificates and that they had written officially to WAEC to know why the certificates were yet to be released three years after exam,” Owoyemi narrated. One of the school teachers, simply identified as Mr. Solanke, volunteered to follow Oluwatosin and his father to Ikorodu office of WAEC, which controls Ojodu area. There, they met with the officer in charge, Mr. Olu Adekeye.
A letter of complaint had earlier been sent to the office by the school. But surprisingly, the officer in charge told us he had no knowledge of any letter from the school concerning the matter and addressed to his office.
At that point, he got to know that the letter was received by a subordinate, Mr. Okonkwo, who never passed it to the relevant office for action,” Owoyemi alleged.
The matter later took the complainants to the Ikeja office of WAEC, from where the officer in charge of the office, simply identified as Mrs. Agwu wrote officially to the Nigeria’s head office of the council at Yaba for action.
While these were on, the school claimed it had informed the affected students that WAEC had responded to letter sent earlier and that the council complained of having problem in embossing on their certificates what they called blur photographs they provided during registration and that it would need replacements.
“We even submitted new passport photographs, which were also burnt on a compact disc by the school and submitted to WAEC through its Ikorodu area office,”  Oluwatosin told National Mirror on phone, adding: “That was done January last year.” Some of the affected students did not limit the struggle to the WAEC office.
In May 2012 for instance, Mr. Owoyemi took the matter before the state’s Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, when he waited endlessly to see the positive action from both WAEC and the school. Since then, many other affected students have come to the school to lodge similar complaint.
One of them, who is the senior prefect of his set and now a 500- level mechanical engineering student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Adesanya Zacheous Taiwo, is also unsettled as his fate remains hanging in the balance. Taiwo is due to graduate this year but if the matter is not resolved, the entire five years as an undergraduate may become a waste.
The same fate may befall Akinola Nofisat Bukola, a final year student of the Department of Computer Science, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, who is also stunned and has joined forces with her mates to seek remedy.
Now, considering the money and time he had expended on the matter and with no headway in sight, Owoyemi, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, approached his lawyer, Mr. J.O. Oladeji of Leke Oladeji and Company, who wrote the exam body’s registrar in a letter he titled: 2008 May/June Senior Secondary Certificate of Owoyemi Tosin Examination No- 4251410/230. In the said letter, the solicitor requested to be furnished with reasons why his client’s result was cancelled within a 14-day ultimatum.
“But till date, we have received no response from WAEC and the only option left for us now is to take our case before the public and possibly to court.” To approach the matter from different perspectives, Mr. Owoyemi visited the Yaba office of WAEC just last week, where he met with the body’s Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Yusuff Ari. Ari advised that a fresh letter of complaint should be written and addressed to the registrar of the council.
A copy of the letter made available to National Mirror and entitled: ‘Appeal for reconsideration of result’, 19 sought the understanding of WAEC to review the situation and feed the candidates with relevant information on the issue.
However, some of the affected students, who gathered at the secondary school compound last Saturday, including Sanni Muhammed, another final year student in a college in Saudi Arabia, and Ali Saheed, resolved at storming the ministry of education latest next week to demand for its urgent and proactive intervention.
When National Mirror approached WAEC, Mr. Ari said the exam body later found out that a case of “serious” malpractice was reported against the school, and that WAEC decided to cancel the results after proper investigations were carried out.
“Their case is very complex and unusual. But the public should know that WAEC is a very meticulous institution that does not joke with the life of its candidates. When the school wrote to know the cause of the development, the council replied by informing the school that the affected students were involved in examination malpractice.
That is the information at my disposal. And I should add that WAEC has every right to cancel any result at any stage it discovers any irregularity,” Ari told National Mirror. However, the questions being asked by the candidates are that: ‘At what stage did WAEC get know of the malpractice allegation?
What is the particular offence committed? Who are the particular individuals found guilty of the crime? What are the evidences against them? Was there no need for fair hearing before the “damning” verdict?
According to Ismail, as far as he was concerned, there was no case of examination malpractice against him during the exam and that if he had not committed any crime, why should he be punished?
Until WAEC responds to these probing questions, the students’ fate will remain unknown and the situation may create more problems not only for the students but also the country at large. It is understandable that some other students of the set were in higher institutions of learning in South Africa, Europe and Asia pursuing one course or another.
But will the current situation not subject WAEC’s integrity to question among the comity of nations?

Governor Okorocha of Imo state to cancel scholarships of indecently dressed students

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Friday said he would withdraw the scholarship from any student of Imo origin in tertiary institutions reported by the school authority to be indecently dressed.
The governor gave the warning in Owerri while addressing members of the newly appointed Government Liaison Officers.

He said that he had already requested school authorities in different government-owned higher institutions to submit names of Imo students found to have dressed provocatively to lectures to his office.

“I have mandated the school authorities to bring the name of any female student found to have exposed the sensitive parts of her body for immediate cancellation of her name as a beneficiary of the scholarship award.
“The same goes to the young boys found exposing part of their inner wear in the name of sagging.

“The school is for academic work and those that found themselves there must know how to dress properly,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okorocha, in the beginning of the year, started the implementation of a scholarship award promised to students of Imo origin in tertiary institutions.

By the scholarship, students of the state-owned university (IMSU) are to receive N100, 000 each academic session while those of the polytechnic and colleges of education are to get N65,000 for their academic pursuit.

The governor also reaffirmed the determination of his administration to introduce an identification card for all Imo citizens to be known as Imo Social Security Identity Card.

He said the ID card would help in the proposed data collection of all citizens in the state and ensure adequate security of lives and property.

Okorocha also assured the citizens that he would finish 80 per cent of all the projects embarked upon by his administration before December this year.

The governor said   that 200km of roads would be tarred within two weeks.
He urged Imo citizens to be patient and to cooperate with his ‘rescue mission agenda’ as he would ensure they are not denied dividends of democracy.

We reduced cultism in Auchi Poly with Productivity- Rector

The rector of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Dr Philipa Idogho, has attributed the near eradication of cultism in the school in the last three years to the continuous productive engagement of its students.

In an interview with journalists, Dr Idogho said: “Students want to learn and that is why we are exploiting that avenue. We keep them busy with academic and entrepreneurial activities, leadership training and all of that; that is why we have experienced this phenomenal reduction on the issues of cultism in this school.

Mrs Idogho, who answered questions on a variety of issues, appealed to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to increase the carrying capacity of the institution so it can admit more students.

“Every year, we see up to 24,000 students coming to do the post-UTME screening but many of them are not admitted because of our carrying capacity. That is why we are building more facilities. We are asking the NBTE to give us additional carrying capacity to enable us to admit more students into the school,” she said.
Besides, she said the school has established a Centre for Flexible Skills that would enable primary school leaving certificate holders and its equivalents to develop themselves in their pace with radio, face-to-face learning and lecture notes.

She said the programme was important because the students would graduate from one level to another based on their ability to comprehend what they are taught.

Gov Aliyu urges NANS not to allow NSUK students kiling degenerate to National problem

Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger has dissuaded the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) from making the killing of two students of Nasarawa State University to degenerate into national problem.

Aliyu gave the advice on Friday in Minna when he met with the NANS’ Director of Exchange Programmes, Mr Olusina Oyebisi, who presented a document to him on the issue.

According to him, if the issue is not resolved it may affect the entire education sector of the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN recalls that two students of the university were allegedly killed by soldiers, while protesting against water scarcity on the campus and its environs on Feb. 25.

Aliyu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Joshua, advised NANS to embrace dialogue in resolving the matter while assuring that he would delivered their message to the appropriate quarters.

He commiserated with the staff members and students of the university over the sad incident and prayed Allah to grant the departed eternal rest.

Earlier, Oyebisi urged President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that those behind the killing of their colleagues were prosecuted.

He stressed the need for the Federal Government to compensate the families of the slain students and students who lost their property during the disturbance.

He said NANS was appealing to the State Government to reopen the institution for normal academic activities within the next one week and settle the hospital bills of the injured students.

Damoche Buried As Students Flee LASU Campus

Upcoming Hip Hop artiste, Damilola Olaniyan, popularly known as Damino Damoche, was on Saturday buried at the Badagry Cemetry according to Islamic rites.
The 25-year-old and final year Banking and Finance student of the Lagos State University, was gruesomely killed few meters away a gate of the institution last Thursday after writing a test.

Meanwhile, some pictures of corpses suspected to be students of the Lagos State University went viral on the Internet on Saturday, heightening tension in the school and its environs.

Consequently, students of the institution have expressed fear that some cult members might want to avenge Olaniyan’s death. Reports on social network such as Facebook and Twitter stated that some cult members attacked and killed some students living off campus.

“Some cult members believed to belong to Aiye and Bucanners, went to attack some cult members belonging to Eiye Confraternity that live off campus.

Olaniyan was believed to be a member of Bucanners. It was his gang members that went on the killing spree to avenge his death,” a report stated It was learnt that following the rumour that went viral, many students had left the school and gone home for the weekend in order not to be caught in the cross fire.

When contacted on the telephone, the Student Union President, Ibrahim Tunji, denied the death of more students, adding that normalcy had since returned to the campus.

He said, “I have not received news of the death of any student. I left the school on Friday and I came back on Saturday so I would know if anything had happened. You know anyone can fabricate any story but I don’t think there is need for panic.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back when contacted on the telephone but was yet to do so as at press time.

Nigeria Lacks Good Leaders – OBJ

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Saturday, said Nigeria lacks good leadership to administer her enormous potentials.

Obasanjo, who identified lack of quality leadership, among other factors, as major hindrances to development in Nigeria as well as other African countries, lamented the lack of leadership that could harness the resources to the point of noticeable development.

The former president spoke in Abeokuta during the final of Africa Region Inter-collegiate Debate on Human Security Africa, organised by Centre for Human Security (CHS), an arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

The occasion featured universities and secondary school students from Nigeria and other African countries who participated in a debate as part of the activities marking Obasanjo’s 76th birthday.

The former president opined that there were not many good leaders in the country, stressing that leadership in any country was very important to development and growth.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

“On the topic you have chosen for this debate, ‘Human Security in Africa’, whether it is a myth or reality, threat to human security, high economic growth, whether it is flash in the pan or sustainable, it all comes to one major thing and that one major thing is leadership. Very soon, I do hope that we’ll bring leadership in all dimensions and in all ramifications.

“I realise that we have many Nigerians and there are not many good leaders in Nigeria. Whatever is the reason, it is something we have to tackle because we cannot continue the way it is.

“That brings me to the hope and the bright future that I see in what Profs. Akin Mabogunje and Peter Okebukola are putting together (the debate).

“It’s to try and prepare African youths, boys and girls, together that future belongs to you youths.

“Nobody will help Africa, nobody can help Africa and that is the truth. If we expect others from outside to come and help us, it is a second class help.

“What do I see for the future? We have caliber of women, men, young and old that Africa needs to put itself up and to make its voice heard in the world today and tomorrow.

“Alfred Mills explains in his book, ‘Why Africa is poor’ but it’s a choice, a choice that our leaders have made.

“But here watching you (students) at the college level and university level. I believe that the materials are there.“

Obasanjo said he was shocked when Alhaji Aliko Dangote told him that six Ph.D holders and 600 master degree holders were among applicants for truck drivers in his (Dangote) company.

He stated that the issue boils down to the problems of job creation, wealth creation, among others.

Damoche’s Murder: LASU Deserted as School mgt, SUG, React

Students and staff of Lagos State University, LASU, have kept off from the campus following the brutal murder of a rising hip-hop artiste, Olaniyan Damilola, popularly known as Damino Damoche, at the school gate, Thursday afternoon. Realted Article: Damoche: Death Caused by Cultists

Pandemonium and confusion reigned supreme yesterday after the killing of Damoche as students and others who have anything to do in the school hurriedly left the campus for fear of being hit by assailants’ bullets or being arrested by the police. Damino When Vanguard visited the campus today (Friday), what used to be a beehive of activities with human traffic was scanty and a shadow of itself. Meanwhile, the school management and the students union have reacted to the murder of the student.
The university’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Dr. Sola Fosudo condemned the murder in its entirety and called on the police and other security agencies to unravel the mystery behind the heinous act and bring the perpetrators to book.
Fosudo however, condoled with the family of late musicians, assuring them that the school authority will do all within its power to assist security agents bring the killers to book.
Speaking also, a member of Students Union government, who preferred anonymous, said the students leadership has condemned the attack on one of its own and has vowed to follow the case until the perpetrators of the dastardly act were punished according to the dictates of law.
It will be recalled that Damoche was shot dead Thursday afternoon by suspected campus fraternity gangs outside the school premises. The late hip hop star was shot twice, in the head and on the left hand, with what appeared to be a high caliber weapon. He lay dead for several hours before policemen took his body away in a pick-up van.

AN INTERVIEW WITH AYO ADESANYA

This Site is for Student Informations i know but you have to remember there is room for entertatinment too. Here is an Interview of a star in the Yoruba Movie Industry. Enjoy.

… Says ‘I was paid N3000 for my first role’
Ayo Adesanya is one of the established Yoruba actresses who have been around for more than a decade. She burst into the glitterati of fame in the early 90s. In this interview, she talks about her journey into Nollywood, her love life and the man in her life.
Excerpt: How’s life treating you? Life has been good really. All I want to do is thank God for his mercies. What projects are you embarking on this year? I have a couple of projects I’m trying to work on. I intend doing two big budget movies this year. And I also want to do a TV reality show. The show is not really about me. So, what’s it all about? I’m working on it. Well, it’s about our every day life. I know you can learn one or two things from the programme when it finally flags off.
Why do you want to go into TV reality show? I think I’m energetic. And I’m trying to put my energy into something else apart from movies. I just realized that reality show might be the next level for me. But aside acting, I also produce movies. Many years down the drain, what’s your experience like? I think I have come of age. What I’m trying to say is that I’ve learnt a lot of lessons along the line. I believe in the aphorism that the more you grow, the older you become, the more experienced you would be. Sometimes you read certain things that if you check your life, you could actually pick one or two things that are happening in your own life and you learn a lot on how to handle similar situations.
You haven’t been specific about those lessons life has taught you? I just realized that unlike the normal saying; it’s all about good over evil. But then, there’s something else I realized; there are so many troubles in the world. My own number one solution to these problems would still be prayers. And I knew that even right from scratch, and a lot of movies too testify to that fact that you just have to depend on God when in need of certain things. I also believe it’s good to be good. Nobody is perfect. But then, certain things like bringing up kids, you really have to be watchful the way they are brought up so you don’t run into problems later because they are still coming back to be your burden.
So what was growing up like for you? I come from a family of four children. I had two brothers and a cousin and we grew up together. My father was quite comfortable when we were young although he died at the age of 44 . I was about 19 years at that time, and I was still in the University. So, we had to live with my mother and she’d been so supportive. She’s my all in all. After teh death of my father, life was a bit tough because at a point, when I finished my secondary school, I had to work in a hospital, Saint Vincent at Ibadan. I left secondary school at the age of fifteen and worked for three years to save enough money for my university education. I attended University of Ibadan where I studied Communications And Language Arts. I got support from people as well as some patients I also helped. I had to work to pay for my tuition fee.
How did you join teh movie industry? There’s this guy, Ifeanyi, he works with NTA International now. After my NYSC, I started working with Potson Nigeria Limited. So there was one time I had a break from there. So I wanted to go into TV from there. So I went for an interview and met him. We got talking and he invited me for an audition. I got interested, and before then, I used to act in my nursery school in Ibadan.
Even during my secondary school days, I used to be part of our drama group. Thereafter I relocated to Lagos and continued to act in my church. That was when I met Ifeanyi who introduced me to Zeb Ejiro. Zeb was about producing his “Mortal Inheritance” movie and I took part in the audition. But I remember vividly that when they gave me the script, I was just shouting. Eventually, they gave me a waka-pass role but I didn’t go back there. But I saw my name on the list. The same Ifeanyi later introduced me to Opa William and he asked me to do a piece which I did. He was impressed. So, he gave me a minor role in Onome, and he paid me N3000.
I was so happy that I could earn that kind of money for just a minor role. From there, I started going for auditions and did Abused, Omotola was part of it and Kesi Jabari and others and they paid me. Then I did Palace by Tunji Bamisigbin . Then, I did Dry Leafs, Most Wanted, so it was from one location to another. That was how I had my breakthrough in the industry.
Was it a smooth ride to stardom? It wasn’t all that smooth, a little tough. But then, I think it’s just God because sometimes when God shows you where you ought to be, there’s little you can do. Sometimes, I went for auditions and wouldn’t get picked or they could just give me a minor role like a waka-pass and I would still do it and it didn’t matter to me. But most times too, I got good roles. I don’t think I was sexually harassed. Yes, a couple of people wanted to date me but it’s a normal thing for a guy to ask you out because you are attractive. But most times, I get the role before anybody could ask me out. I believe I had what the directors wanted and they normally gave me the role. But maybe, in the cause of shooting the movie, he might just develop an interest in me and decide to ask me out for a drink. You said you were paid N3000 in your first movie .
How much do you worth now? I’m not going to tell you how much I’m worth(laughs).
So what was your mother’s reaction when you told her you wanted to become an actress? My mother is always supportive whenever I follow my heartbeat. Her concern is to ensure you are doing what you wanted to do for a living. I happened to be the first child and the only girl of the family. So, we are very close and talk like friends. Our age difference isn’t so wide because she had me when she was really young so, we could talk about anything.
Being a single mother must be really stressful? Women are naturally mothers and I think it works easy because it comes naturally. We just have to take care of our kids even when we have to work. But it hasn’t been easy because I could go to work for like three days without coming home, and my son has to go to school. When he was younger it was a challenge because most times I had to take him along whenever I’m going on location. But now, he’s getting older, and a lot easier because I could go to work and all I have to do is talk to him on the phone. But any little opportunity I have to be at home, I grab it. That’s why my social life is not all that wow because I like being with my family. There must be a man in your life Definitely, I have somebody in my life.
So, who is the lucky man? (Laughs)I’m not going to tell you How soon are you planning to walk down the aisle? I hope to do that…
Before the end of the year? Do you know one thing? I’m a lucky person because I try so hard to separate my private life from my work life. I think I’ve been successful at doing it. I find it difficult talking about issues relating to my private life.
There is need for you to put the record straight? Of course, I have definitely moved on. I’m not searching. I’m trying to say that I’m satisfied with what I have because I definitely have somebody in my life
Have you finally cleaned your tattoo? I still have it but it’s fading off gradually. I recently had a surgery. I’m supposed to have gone for another one. I’m clearing it off but it’s so painful. It gets swollen and too painful.
Wasn’t it painful when you were doing it? It was painful but then removing it is more painful. But then it reminds you of the past As funny as it is, I don’t remember anything whenever I see it. I see it as part of fashion. I actually went to a church to pray and they gave me a Bible verse, I never knew it was against Christianity. Until the Pastor opened a passage that I should read, and that was how I knew. It’s actually so beautiful when you have tattoos but immediately I knew it was a sin then, I made up my mind to clean it. But your ex also has the same tattoo.
Doesn’t your new man complain whenever he sees it? He’s not even that kind of person. He’s a very cool person.
How is your boy taking your new man? Both of them have a relationship. They get along.
Doesn’t he miss his dad? Please let’s not talk about that for security reasons. Okay, you don’t want to talk about your ex because of your new man? Not because of him but it goes beyond that. I don’t really want to talk about my past.
Very painful I guess? It’s not as if it’s painful. I’m just trying not to contradict some legal matters here.
Okay you’re still in court? Not really. I don’t want to talk about it Okay, let me guess- you are still in court and you don’t… We were never legally married in the first place. So, there’s nothing about being in court. It was just something that he did on his part. I don’t want to talk about it. It was a long time.
As a human, what are those challenges you face? I’m just like every other person so it’s just the normal challenges
I think your son wants a baby from you very soon? He always disturbs me to buy a baby toll for him at Shoprite.
Looking at life, do you have any regret? Well, I don’t want to say I regretted my marriage because I got something positive from it which is my boy. But really, if I’m given a chance to walk through that experience again, I’m not going to do it that way. I’ll do it differently
You are not going to marry him? I won’t.
So what’s the difference between him and this new man? (Laughs)I’m not making any comparison, but you know sometimes to hold a home or be with a woman takes a lot of gut and maturity.I think some men are still babies. They are not mature enough but you won’t know until you are with that person. I talk in parables.
So he had a problem with your career? Probably. He didn’t understand what it means to be an actress Maybe, I should attribute most of the problems to that fact. He thought you were wayward whenever you went on set No. Funny enough, it takes a lot of trust at the same time. I don’t think we had a trust issue. But I think to marry a career woman or a celebrity- it’sn’t what most men can handle.
Most of them think celebrity are too proud? Exactly, but they forget that they are dealing with down to earth people.
And for a celebrity to marry such a man is a plus to him? Exactly. I’m a kind of person that whenever I’m off the set, I’m over that character. I switch back to myself. And before I enter my home, I forget whatever I am.
So how is your new man coping with your career? I’m not getting any younger so I definitely deserve to be seeing someone. I’ve chosen that person and I believe he understands my kind of profession more but it’s not so easy.
What advice do you have for young women who are trying to be like you? It takes a lot of humility and patience to get to the top. They have to be humble to gain a lot. They should forget the fame because it comes with hard work. Although some are lucky to get to the top within a short time and that means it’s just luck because it’s not easy.
Most importantly, you have to serve God. I’m a Christian so I can’t take my Jesus for granted. Life isn’t just about partying because being on location is enough party in itself. So, it’s not about clubbing all the time but no one says you shouldn’t club but let’s not forget where we are coming from.

photo THE Federal high court holden at Asaba, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to pay the sum of N10m as exemplary damage following the brutalization and illegal detention of a 14-year-old secondary school student sometime in 2011.
The student, Amanda Atigbi of Saint Paul’s Grammar School, Ebu in Delta State, according to the facts of the case was handcuffed, tortured and kept in solitary police cell while in detention at Illah police station, and denied access to his parents or a lawyer.

Justice C.M.A. Olatoregun-Isola awarded the cost against the police authorities, on Friday, while delivering judgment in a suit seeking to enforce the fundamental rights of the girl brought about by her mother, Mrs. Anthonia Atigbi, describing the brutalization meted on the girl as act of wickedness.

Mother of the girl had in a 69-paragraph affidavit in support of the originating motion stated that “that about 10am on Wednesday 21st September 2011, I sent the 1st application (daughter) to a daily marked called aja-ilo, Ebu located about one kilometre away from my house to buy fish and other condiments with which to prepare a meal for me.

“That I was informed while 1st applicant (daughter) was busy shopping for the items, she had an argument with the 1st respondent (Mrs. Priscilia Ajamah) over the price of fish. That the argument degenerated into an altercation and unexpectedly, the 1st respondent without any provocation whatsoever slapped the 1st applicant.

“That in self-defence, the 1st applicant responded with a slap and a fight ensued between the two of them.

“That the 1st respondent vented her anger on the 1st applicant by beating her up mercilessly into coma and subsequently threw her into a pond of erosion water, lowered her head and forced her to drink the muddy water.

“That while the 1st applicant was trekking home the 6th to 9th respondents (police officers) in company of the 1st respondent (Mrs. Ajamah) in an ash-coloured Sports Utility vehicle with the following car plate number Lagos CX 939 APP drover to her and ordered her to enter the car.

“That she saw from a distance that the 1st applicant was battered, traumatized and sick due to detention in cold and solitary police cell”.

Male Student Wears Wrapper To School; Wins 20K Bet

A pre science student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (Mbaukwu Campus) shocked everybody yesterday Thursday 28/02/13 when he wore a wrapper to school.

The student who is in E2, earlier had a bet with some guys in his lecture hall that he could wear a wrapper to school and the guys promised to give him #20,000 if he did. Guess what? The dude took the risk but lo and behold, after he stepped into his hall, the gals who could not hide their amusement started shouting, yelling and chanting.

The noise eventually attracted the security officers to the Hall and the boy was fished out & planked with heavy logs of wood. These action nearly stirred a riot in the school, as students detested the brutality saying the guy had the right to wear anything he chooses.

The Guy ran away, while he was still being assaulted. But he became a kinda 'celebrity' overnight. See where BB's and Iphones dey flash this guy camera, I snapped him with my Nokia.

Fashola Blames Okada For Damoche’s Murder

Commercial motorcycle transportation, popularly known as okada, is once again in the eye of the storm following the brutal murder of singer and student, Damino Damoche, last Thursday in Lagos by gunmen on Okada.

Before Damoche’s murder, okada activities had been restricted inthe state, and now, the state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, is using the Damoche murder as an opportunity to campaign against Okada riding.
Condemning the gruesome killing of the singer precipitate student, Fashola urged residents to see reason for restriction of commercial Okada operators in the state. He said that the recent murder and previous ones buttressed the state government’s objectives of taming crime through the new road traffic law which restricts the activities of commercial motorcycle popularly called Okada.

“Most dastardly acts are perpetrated with the use of okada so residents have to be security conscious and on their guard all the time. On Thursday, Damino Damoche was shot at the entrance gate of LASU. Those who perpetrated the evil act used Okada.

“Just one month ago, a medical doctor was killed by some armed men who were riding Okada. The doctor would have been of benefit to those in need of medical services. “Some people may be saying that the ban on Okada has rendered them useless.

Is this a suitable business, a business that has led to the death of many who could contribute effectively to the development of the country especially Lagos State?” Lamenting further, he said, “Those who perpetrate these evil acts aren’t spirits.

We (Lagos residents) are the ones offering them shelter when they come to the state.” “Anyone you suspect doesn’t live in your neighbourhood, report such people to the nearest police station, the chairman of their Community Development Area, CDA, and landlords should ensure that they don’t rent their house to criminals.”

FACEBOOK FRIENDS KIDNAP KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Months after a post-graduate student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Miss Cynthia Osokogu was killed by friends she met on social media, Facebook, an undergraduate of Kogi State University, Lokoja, Kogi State, Oludoyi Bamidele Samuel, has been abducted by a kidnap syndicated, facilitated by a friend he also met on Facebook.

Samuel was, however, lucky, as he is alive to tell the story of how his supposed friend, identified as Michael (surname unknown) by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, lured him from Enugu to Warri, Delta State.

A kidnap gang facilitated by Michael, currently at large, held him hostage for three days before Police officers from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, stormed their hideout at Uzor Street, Agbarho, and seized three of the suspects
.
They demanded N5 million ransom from Samuel’s mother to effect his release and were relocating him to another location when the police pounced on them. Read the full details in Vanguard
