The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, has warned students against wasting their time on Facebook, at the expense of their studies.
Speaking at a Role Modeling Lecture for the Girl-Child, sponsored by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development and organized by a Ph.D student and 2010 Award Fellow, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlolu-Akinyemi, Oyewole charged FUNAAB students to sustain the institution’s legacy of excellence by doing more of studying than wasting time on social networks.
He said in his statement that “Facebook and other social networks are good but I will advise you to leave Facebook and face your studies.”
The VC, who was represented by the former Head of Department of General Studies and Communication, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, said though internet was good for researches and knowledge acquisition, students should stop spending valuable time on the Facebook and other social networks.
Also, the FUNAAB’s Counsellor, Mrs. Modesta Ofodile,
stated that students should use some of their free periods as private
study time.
According to her, such free periods could also be utilized by the students to refresh and also renew their energy.
Ofodile asserted that it not advisable for students
not to revise the day’s lecture notes before going to the next class,
adding that serious-minded students rarely get into trouble.
She, however, advised the students to manage their
time, saying that “if you waste your time thinking there is time,
examinations will catch you unawares.”
