UNIBEN Takes Edo State Government To Court Over Un-lawful Evictions

Latest educative news reaching us today is that the Management board of the University of Benin, have taken the Edo State Government before an High Court sitting in Benin, because of the eviction of staff of the institution occupying 18 landed property, which is being situated and located at Government Reservation Area,GRA, in Benin-City, Edo state.
The University Of Benin, in the suit, is seeking to restrain the Edo state government, including its agents, servants or privies from evicting the educational institution staff from the property.
Which is currently pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Meanwhile, hearing in the suit had been fixed for March 5, 2013.
The university of benin is contending in the suit, that since its inception in 1970 as Mid-West Institute of Technology, the academic institution started as the property of the defunct Mid-West State Government, which had metamorphosed from Bendel to Edo and Delta states.
The university of benin also argued that like every new project, the defunct Mid-Weststate government committed it resources to ensuring the successful take–off of the institution.
